Our team is dedicated to saving teeth. However, sometimes, tooth extractions are necessary to preserve your oral health. For tooth extractions in Midland, call your local Basin Dentistry office today.
There are many reasons why wisdom teeth need to be removed, including causing tooth misalignment, pain or other dental issues. We can help you decide if extraction is necessary or if there are other options to consider. If wisdom teeth need to be extracted, they are usually done under sedation. Schedule an appointment with Basin Dentistry to learn more.
At Basin Dentistry, we strive to help all of our patients find alternatives to tooth extractions. Our goal is to help your smile look and feel amazing for a lifetime. However, tooth extractions can be a necessary outcome based on a series of dental issues. If the tooth is damaged beyond repair, is severely infected or your mouth is crowded due to large back teeth, tooth extractions may be utilized to ensure the health of your smile.
If you’re experiencing a severe toothache, swelling, pain when chewing, or other signs of infection or injury, call our office. We offer same-day emergency appointments and will try to remove the tooth as soon as possible.
Wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to erupt in the mouth. They typically come in between the ages of 17 and 25. While some patients no complications when their wisdom teeth erupt, many develop impacted wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth can become impacted when the mouth is too crowded to allow the teeth to come in normally. This can cause pain, infections and damage to the surrounding teeth and jawbones.
For patients suffering from impacted wisdom teeth, we recommend extractions.
If you need a tooth extraction, call your local Basin Dentistry office. Our team will perform an examination and take digital X-rays to assess the condition of your tooth. Basin Dentistry understands that tooth extractions are the least favorite treatment for our patients to experience. Because this procedure is often a last resort, we take extra care to help patients feel comfortable and relaxed before, during and after the tooth extraction procedures.
Before your extraction, we will numb the tooth using a local anesthetic and administer sedation as necessary to make you as comfortable as possible. Our dentist will then remove the tooth and pack the area with gauze. We may close the area with a stitch as necessary.
Following your procedure, our dentist will ask you to bite down on a piece of dry, sterile gauze to stop the bleeding until a blood clot can form in the socket. Pain and swelling are normal and should pass in two to three days. Our dentist may prescribe antibiotics and pain relievers as necessary to prevent infection and ease your discomfort in the days following your extraction. If you experience prolonged pain, bleeding or swelling following your procedure, be sure to call our office right away.
